Weiland kennels is a product of 35 years of my 40 years on this earth. It all started with my big brother Mike and his wife Pat buying their first Labrador Retriever 35 years ago and establishing what was to become (Ebonylane Labradors), from that day on the whole family was hooked!!!! My father became enamored with training and titling the dogs while Mike and Pat showed every weekend, that’s when I tagged along watching and learning. I was also very fortunate to grow up with many icons of various breeds, not just Labrador Retrievers but German Shepherds, Bearded Collies, Cocker Spaniels, Old English Sheepdogs, Flat Coated Retrievers, and of course Golden Retrievers. My cousins, Mike and Val Ducross also shared the same love affair
with Golden Retrievers and it wasn’t long after my Mike that they started
their own kennel (Ambertrail). Then when Mike and Val brought home a dog
called Honey, she became my first memory of finding my breed and knowing
that some day I would own a lot of these dogs
Finally, I’m grown up and I’m proud to say that I’ve owned goldens
for about 21 years. It all started with “Corky” who was a golden want-a-be.
Thanks to my good friend Liz Boyce (Morning Kennels) who rescued her from
the highway, I was finally able to start what soon became an all encompassing
passion.
Today I now own and co-own 6 dogs, four beautiful girls and two up-and-coming
boys, all of whom you will meet if you enter my site. A special thanks
to Judy Wright and Kathy Cummings (Shakeely Kennels) for my first two purebred
goldens (Gradie and Robin) which got me back in the show and obedience
rings once again.
I also need to thank Lisa Smith (Goodtime Kennels) for my start in
this endeavor by being a good sounding board as well as a friend. This
leads me to my star female (Sara) who decided for me that I would indeed
become a breeder of Golden Retrievers.
Without trying to sound like an award show honoree, I still need
to thank two more people, Val Walters (Ranbourne Labradors) who has helped
me every step of the way, who now co-owns with me: Weiland Taylored for
Ranbourne (Taylor)
And last, but not least, Rhonda Hovan for all the hand-holding and
letting her beautiful boy (Faera’s Starlight), with my Sara, give me a
wonderful foundation to my kennel.
My hope for the future of Weiland Golden Retrievers is to breed healthy,
sound dogs that will excel in all aspects of life, whether that be field,
conformation, obedience or simply a family pet.
